Tahoe Project Madness Moves Into Round Two as Community Voting Continues

Life in Lake Tahoe is defined as much by stewardship as it is by setting. The landscape, the water, and the access to it all are not incidental. They are carefully protected, thoughtfully managed, and continuously shaped by the people who care about this place.

That influence is now in the hands of the community.

The Tahoe Fund has advanced its Tahoe Project Madness campaign into Round Two, where public voting will determine which project receives an additional $10,000 grant. More than 1,000 votes in the opening round narrowed the field to eight initiatives focused on forest restoration, water quality, recreation access, and wildfire resilience.

Each reflects a different dimension of what makes Tahoe exceptional and what it takes to preserve it.

Among the finalists are reforestation efforts led by the Sugar Pine Foundation following the Caldor Fire, restoration of the Upper Truckee Marsh by the California Tahoe Conservancy, and aquatic invasive species prevention initiatives from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

Programs that expand access to Tahoe’s outdoor lifestyle are also in consideration. Achieve Tahoe continues to broaden adaptive recreation opportunities, while SOS Outreach introduces local youth to mentorship and the outdoors. Trail stewardship led by the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association and nature-based education from the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science further reinforce a shared commitment to access and understanding.

A wildfire alert camera project through ALERTWildfire is also in the running, focused on early detection across the basin.

These efforts move quietly but meaningfully. They shape the clarity of the lake, the health of the forests, and the experience of living here over time.

Voting remains open through April 6th. For those who feel connected to Tahoe, it is a simple way to take part in what comes next. Learn more about the programs and cast your vote here. [LINK]
